Some expectant mothers still worry about
coloring their hair during pregnancy. Salon owner
Rick Fogarty of Plan B Cut and Color Boutique,
in Cambridge, MA, realized a growing need for
less invasive color service and felt the “Healthy
Glow” associated with pregnancy “shouldn’t end
at the neck.” With this in mind, he developed a
technique for off-the-scalp color applications
called Color Me Baby, exclusive to his salon.
Description: Color Me Baby, a color application service for expectant mothers, keeps the color close to the scalp, without actually touching the scalp. As a master colorist, Fogarty prefers to add complementing highlights. “We use a baliage comb and thicken the color formulas so it prevents color from dripping onto the scalp,” he says.
Length of service: 30 minutes to apply plus processing time.
Cost: partial highlight: $80; full highlight: $120; re-growth to ends color: $99; re-growth only: $80.
How it’s marketed: “Details of the service have been getting around particularly by word-of-mouth and we post information on our Facebook page,” says Fogarty. We felt like we were due for a new service at our salon, and this fits perfectly.”
