It’s official! Your Facebook brand page has now made the switch over to the new Timeline format. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to customize your salon page for the transition and are taking advantage of all of enhanced features. But if not, here are a few additional tips and tricks on how you can get the most out of your page to continually engage with your fans.
Setting Milestones
One of my favorite things about Timeline is the ability to easily showcase your brand's history. Even if your salon hasn't been around for that long, you can still use this feature to communicate the changes and evolution of your business. Remember, it doesn't just have to be boring dates like when your company was founded. Be strategic and creative – add in unique events from your salon, awards, employee promotions, holiday parties and fun photos!
To add a milestone, follow these quick steps:
- Go to sharing tool at the top of your Timeline
- Click Milestone
- Add details like- headline, location, date and details for your milestone
- Choose to add a photo
- Click Save
Pinning Posts
Want to highlight a new offer or promotion you have running for the week? You can now ‘pin it’ to the top of your page, which means it will be prominently displayed in the top left of your timeline. Simply hover of the small pencil icon near your post and select ‘pin to top’ – your post will remain visible at the top of your page for 7 days.
Highlighting Posts
You can also star a post on your page to make it bigger, which ‘highlights’ the posts you think are important. Simply hover over a story on your page, then click on the star icon. When a post is starred, it expands to a widescreen view, showcasing the selected information. This feature is great for photos or videos!
Friend Activity
When someone visits your new page, in the top right corner they now see ‘Friend Activity’. This box shows them stories about how their friends have interacted with your salon, instantly connecting them to your business. They'll also see which friends of theirs already like your page.
Admin Panel
Have you checked out the new admin panel at the top of your page? Instead of having to pull up a separate page or tool like in the past, the new interface is at the top of the page and gives you quick access to notifications (comments and likes to your content), new likes (new people who have liked your page) and insights (analytics, showing have users are engaging with your content).
Fan Messages
And, speaking of the admin panel, another one of my favorite new features is the message section where fans can now send you a private, direct message. Fans no longer have to disclose information by posting on your salon wall. They can now initiative a private conversation with you by sending you a direct message, similar to how it works on your personal Facebook page.
And, that’s the rundown! I would encourage you to spend a little bit of time familiarizing yourself with the new features to really take advantage of all of the ways you can communicate with your fans. Remember to keep you page alive by continually sharing updates, photos, salon promotions and asking questions! Experiment, take chances and mix things up – social media is a great place to showcase the creativity within your salon.
