It was a star studded, salon packed event last night at the Tela Salon in the Meatpacking District of NYC. More than 240 salon professionals attended the Millennium Harms Software BE CAUSE kick off party to benefit BEAUTY CHANGES LIVES.

Beauty Changes Lives is a non-profit initiative designed to raise awareness of how careers in the hair, beauty and wellness industry transform lives both personally and professionally. Created by the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), Beauty Changes Lives is supported by a coalition of beauty professionals including educators, product manufacturers, celebrities and industry icons.

Of course Ted Gibson (Beauty Changes Lives Ambassador and spokesperson) was there. He personally gathered more than $1000 in cash from attendees during his presentation. Ted was followed by Brig Van Osten, winner of Shear Genius 3, who offered a passionate plea for other salon owners and hairdressers to participate and donate.

Also seen on the red carpet was Gayle Giacomo, Brian Buterbaugh, Angie Katsanevas, Sacha Quarles, David Evangelista, Philip Pelusi (owner of Tela and host of the event), Carmen Depasquale and Marco Pelusi.

All attendees were challenged with coming up with their own "BE". Great "be's" were offered and each better than the next: be: FABULOUS, FUN, REAL, TRUE, PASSIONATE, PROFESSIONAL, HONORABLE, EXTRAORDINARY, BEAUTIFUL, DELICIOUS….

Just before the doors opened, I got a chance to speak to John Harms, founder and CEO of Millennium by Harms Software and founder of the Be-Cause event. "We are trying to motivate the salon industry by bringing influential people together to focus on something important and doing something for other people. We have been inspired by what other salon professionals have done in their own communities. We've selected BEAUTY CHANGES LIVES as our charity tonight with the goal to raise enough money to help aspiring hairdressers attend beauty school." Before John left to greet guests, he shared his "BE" word…and one of the best of the night: BE AUTHENTIC.
