A Special Calendar of Breast Cancer Survivors

In May 2011 the staff of Imagine Salon & Spa wanted to do something to give back to their community and breast cancer support and research. Having supported Run for the Cure for the past 7 years, they wanted to increase their support and the idea of a calendar came up from one of the salon’s stylists.

“We started with an e-mail to all our customers”, says Ian Marc Smith, salon owner and president, "then we posted it on our website. The e-mails and names started coming in and we hosted an information evening of wine and cheese."

Participants for the calendar were chosen, and their stories are shown representing months October 2011 to December 2012. All participants were treated to a complete makeover, including hair, make-up & clothes from Imagine Salon & Spa and All Dressed Up.

"The emotional impact of giving a makeover to these special souls, making them feel wonderful was more moving than the calendar," says Smith.

The calendar is made up of 15 months, valuable coupons that can be redeemed for more than $300.00 in salon and spa services, and a wealth of information on breast cancer. Three charities are being donated to; CIBC Run for the Cure; Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia; and Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, Dr. Paola Marignani. This effort should allow Imagine Salon & Spa to donate approximately $15,000.00!
