I just recently judged the Hair Wars Supreme Salon Tour at the Mid Nightclub in Chicago, where 11 Chicago salons all competed for the regional title of "Supreme Salon."

I just recently heard from Master stylist/JPMS Educator Darlene Burnham at Andreas Hogue Salon in Northbrook, Illinois, and she filled me in on how she created the Jack Sparrow hat, (which was part of a larger Pirates' Presentation which won second place). According to Burnham she created this style by using recycled cut hair from many of the guests at Andreas Hogue Salon.

Step 1: Burnham started sprinkling hair on a flat surface into a round doughnut shape.
Step 2: Then, she sprayed the hair with hairspray and then took two large hair picks and started to pound them into the hair.
Step 3: While doing this, Burnham continued sprinkling hair on top and repeated the steps until it looked like a piece of felt.
Step 4: Burnham molded the hair into a Tricorne hat pattern and sewed the two pieces together.

How-to: Create a Jack Sparrow Hair Hat!
