Mod’s Hair was founded as a studio agency in Paris in 1968 by Frederic and Guillaume Berard, who quickly found themselves working with top fashion magazines, designers and photographers. The positive reception to their hair styling concepts lead them to open Mod’s Hair Salon in Paris Rive Gauche in 1974. Since then, many more locations have been opened worldwide, with the latest being Mod’s Hair LA.

True to its roots, Mod’s Hair LA was modeled after fashion studios, but also technology stores to give it a modern and clean look. The space is divided into sections that form a clear and cohesive customer experience. The welcome area is designed as a space for clients to describe what they want to their stylists. There is a relaxation area, shampoo area, color bar, a space for nail art and makeup and, of course, comfortable styling stations. At the end of the service experience, clients can visit the photoshoot space and model for photos so they can share their new look.

“We kept the interior predominantly black, white, gray, silver and wooden,” says David Pierre Pappalardo, creative director and co-owner of Mod's Hair LA. “Lush, tropical plants line the entrance leading into the salon, and more are placed tastefully around the room, creating a beautiful airy atmosphere where clients may feel at peace. All of our lighting fixtures are modern and distinct from the next, and all reveal their own intriguing light bulbs within, casting a warm, almost timeless glow throughout the salon.”

When choosing a space for the latest Mod’s Hair Salon in LA, the team chose a building with lots of open space and natural light. Furniture was customized to suit the location and give this salon a California feel.

“The six styling stations are my favorite design feature because they are the heart of Mod's Hair Salon where our customers can live the Mod's hairstyling experience,” says Alain Viot, CEO of Mod’s Hair. “The stations are a major piece, very long but very light, and the mirrors seem to float on the furniture.  The invisible lights can perfectly highlight the work of the Mod's hairstylists.”

“The design had to be consistent with the Mod's Hair DNA and high-end positioning,” Viot says. “We took care of many details, such as the oak-like wood selection, the bronze colored metal parts and the grey cement floor, which make Mod's Hair Salon original and unique. We call it ‘studio design’ to communicate the strong link of Mod's Hair with the fashion and beauty field.”

Another objective of the design process was to highlight the Mod's Hair fashion hairstyling collections.

“We included large pictures on the walls, which are replaced every six months for each new season,” Viot says. “Better pictures than words to show mod's hair unique style.”
