Two years ago, the team at Blo in Raleigh, North Carolina set an ambitious goal for any salon—to break the $2 million mark on gross annual sales. Owner Bryan Nunes promised the team he’d do something special if the salon hit its goal and when they did earlier this year, Nunes started incorporating plans into the staff holiday party.

“We had the Christmas party on a Saturday night in early December, and it was the first one we’ve had in two years, and the first one in the past four years that we held before Christmas,” Nunes says. “We hosted it at a French restaurant in Raleigh. We invited the spouses and significant others and asked them to plan the menu so it was inclusive of the whole Blo family.”

Nunes purchased new shears for each stylist and had them beautifully wrapped with a silver ornament/frame attached. He gave each receptionist a card containing a $100 bill and an ornament/frame. In his speech that evening, he encouraged each team member to use the frame to document the evening.

Before the party, the wrapped shears are adorned with festive ornament/frames.

Nunes passed out the gifts one at a time, inviting each team member up after personally expressing the contribution they made to the team.  “It ended up being a very emotional time,” he says.

“For stylists, there’s nothing quite like opening up a box of brand new shears, and that night I was privileged to give someone her first pair,” Nunes continues. “A few years ago one of our long-time clients asked us to interview his daughter, Caitlin Condina, for a position helping out with inventory and cleaning. She’s done such a great job and has been so inspired by our team, she enrolled in cosmetology school starting in January.”
